Huron Peak Lake Ann

Just beyond the well-preserved silver-mining ghost town of Winfield, this rugged backcountry road leads toward the standard hiking route for 14,004-foot Huron Peak. Along the way, several dispersed campsites offer scenic places to spend the night, while broad meadows near the upper end of the road frequently attract wildlife such as deer, elk, and moose. Because the route also serves as a popular 14er access road, hikers and vehicle traffic can be common during peak season. Although relatively short, the road is rougher than many Colorado trailhead approaches, and AWD vehicles should be prepared for rocky, uneven terrain.
