Schneider Cow Camp

Climbing north from the Caples Lake area, Forest Road 10N13, better known as Schneider Camp Road, offers a mellow journey into the high country of Eldorado National Forest, where shady conifer forests, broad mountain meadows, and seasonal displays of Sierra wildflowers make this drive a memorable outdoor adventure. The road has long provided access to Schneider Camp, where an old corral remains as a reminder of the area’s historic stock and grazing use, and today it serves as a gateway to hiking routes into the Meiss Country as well as more challenging four-wheel-drive trails continuing toward Strawberry Pass. Numerous dispersed campsites tucked among the trees make it especially appealing for an overnight basecamp, while occasional openings reveal views toward Caples Lake and the surrounding granite peaks.
