Hero: Miller Knoll Road
small-sr Icon

Miller Knoll is a short spur that climbs onto a forested knoll and dead-ends at a patch of dark volcanic rock. It starts on a narrow shelf road, then becomes a rutted track, and the surface turns to small, gravelly lava rock that is very loose on the hills. Near the end, a small play area in the lava rock gives drivers a place to look around and turn around.

Most people drive it as a quick side trip while exploring the surrounding forest roads, or to reach the lava rock play area. The trail is best suited for a high clearance 4x4. Expect loose rock, short steep grades, and obstacles up to about 12 inches. One rutted stretch of roughly 300 feet has ruts deeper than 9 inches that cannot be avoided, so careful tire placement and good clearance are needed.

The road is generally one vehicle wide with places to pass, but the shelf road at the start is only about one vehicle wide, so watch for oncoming traffic. Suitable camping is not present on the trail.
