A random gate along SR-24 grants access to San Rafael 923 and the adventures that await within The Swell. The trail is passable with stock type 4x4s with high ground clearance and durable offroad tires. The trail drops down into a canyon where there is a rocky climb, potentially requiring 4x4 in larger vehicles. The trail is wide enough for all vehicles and trailers. It takes about 15 minutes, unless you stop to explore the unique fossilized rocks in the wash. No camping exists along the route. However, abundant camping is available in the southern portion of San Rafael Reef.
