Just outside of Idaho Springs, the Griffin Mountain and Woodchuck Spur Off-Road Trail connects directly off of Cascade Creek and adds to an already fun day of wheeling. Driving through the woods, the trail opens up into an open park area known as Highland Park, which is complete with a small pond and an open meadow area. The trail finally ends with a short but fun climb to the ridgeline of Woodchuck Peak where it reveals views to the northwest of Democrat and Columbia Mountains off in the distance. Not traveled much at all, this is a fun and very quick side excursion.
