Little Box Canyon Road is a short, scenic road tucked into the Mecca Hills just north of the Salton Sea and along the northern border of the Mecca Hills Wilderness. Often described as a smaller version of Anza-Borrego’s Sandstone Canyon, this 2.3-mile west-to-east route winds through sandy washes and tight canyon corridors lined by near-vertical cliffs up to 40 feet tall. The route begins off paved Box Canyon Road at roughly 777 feet and gradually climbs to just over 1,030 feet before connecting with Meccacopia Trail.
The trail is mostly loose sandy gravel, hard-packed dirt, small rocks, and brief patches of deeper sand, making it approachable for first-time off-roaders in a 4WD vehicle.
