With its quick access off of I-15, Old Hesperia is an easy trail providing wonderful views in the winter of the surrounding snow-capped San Gabriel mountains, with plenty of spots to pull over for lunch or just enjoy the views. Along the way, the trail passes under a railroad trestle where railroad enthusiasts will enjoy stopping to view the frequent trains. Some drivers have used this trail to bypass the frequent I-15 backups that occur around the Cajon Pass Summit.
This is an easy, wide forestry road, but with some significant storm damage creating wide, deep ruts along and across the trail. A two-wheel drive vehicle with high clearance and a driver with minimal off-road experience would enjoy this trail.
There are no suitable campsites, but from the south end of the trail, seven miles east on Highway 138, are the Silverwood Lake Campgrounds.
