Only a short distance from Highway 247 in Yucca Valley, BLM RC1428 is an out-and-back trail that leads into the desert foothills and the remnants of a once-active mine.   The mine buildings and machinery have been removed, but the foundations of the miner's cabin, its standing fireplace, and an ore processing pit still remain.  A date of 1972 is inscribed in the concrete foundation. From the mine, the trail continues, climbing a hill to reveal expansive views to the north.  Over its length are several intersecting hiking paths to explore.

The trail is mostly hard, flat dirt, with long rocky sections when higher in the foothills. Any high-clearance vehicle should easily manage the trail with ease.

The mine site itself will make a great dispersed campsite with its large flat concrete foundations and fireplace.  Just up the hill from the mine is another great dispersed campsite on a flat plateau with wonderful views to the north.
