The last few miles are just rutted and ugly. Nothing hard at all, just really chewed up and crowded. Still a fun loop overall..

Blair Valley is great for a low-drama, scenic desert drive. Lots of campable spots spaced out from your neighbors and three great hikes to choose from: the Marshal South Home, the Morteros and the Pictographs. If your kids like climbing rocks, there's plenty to choose from. Easy drive for pretty much any vehicle, but some sandy sections and the occasional rocky or lightly rutted section favors Softroaders and above. I would love to come back here during a superbloom event.

A great stop to drive tamed roads and do amazing hikes to Petroglyphs, old Homestead on top of a mountain, and even holes in the ground used by the natives of the area. I always enjoy camping at Blair Valley as it's peaceful as heck and the deeper sites are always well spaced so you aren't anxious on people driving across your campsite or being woken up by jackasses driving at 3am. Always a swell home feeling to this place.

A nice scenic trail that our camper can easily navigate. As mentioned before its a good location to overnight and complete the three main hiking trails on the route. There were few campers here during our overnight stay so it was very peaceful and quiet but on a small hike around the Blair Valley camping area, there was evidence a lot of trash left behind.

I can never pass up the chance to drive the trails in Blair Valley. Great views and fun winding 2-tracks.

Roads are very easy. Definitely doable with a 2WD, some clearance is useful in places. The best part of this trail is that there is access to a few cool trail heads. You can climb up to see a homestead of a writer, who apparently wasn't 100% honest about living off the land, It's a mile up and a mile back.. Plenty of water and a good hat and you will be fine. Worth the climb for the view. The second tails was less exciting The third was a trip out (about a mile) to see the pictographs and then another 1/2 mile or so to get a great view from the end of the valley. I would definitely recommend this route if you want to get some short hikes in.

Visited the area for a quick overland getaway. Arrived on Friday afternoon and the area was already heavily impacted with campers, many in large groups with RVs (motor homes and large trailers). There were a couple small groups of overlanders with roof top tents and pop up campers. It stuck me as odd that some of the groups blocked off their camping areas with caution tape and cones. We watched as more RVs arrived and witnessed some of them setting up within 50 feet of others they didn't appear to know (those with the caution tape and cones must have learned from a previous experience!). The area is pretty and the trails are easily to navigate. We even saw a Tesla and other commuter cars on the trail. The trailheads were crowded with cars and people. If you are looking for a place to get away and have a quiet experience, there are better choices than this place! This place seems to have become a free camping area where large groups go to party.

The highlight for me on this route were the three hiking trails Marshall South, Morteros, and Pictograph Trail. Marshall South aka Roy Bennet Richards, carried materials up this same trail as a part of his “great experiment” in desert living. I would recommend reading a little about Mr. South prior to hiking there. It will add more color to an already beautiful day hike.

Nice trail for a Toyota 4Runner. This trail was not 4 hours and it took us 1 Hour and 20 Minutes to do the full loop at 8 mph. There was one small ditch otherwise it was easy.
