Highlight: Ormes Peak Road
In the middle of the Waldo Canyon Fire remains, Ormes Peak Road is an easy off-road trail in and out of the burned forest. The fire in this area started in the summer of 2012 and in less than a month and a half had burned over 18,000 acres and destroyed 346 homes. It was the most expensive fire in the state’s history at the time. This trail weaves in and out of burned areas offering some coverage by scattered evergreens and large areas of new aspen growth. This trail is open year-round and can be wheeled in the snow with proper precautions and gear. In the summer it’s less crowded than some of the nearby trails and can be a great place to camp near the young aspens in this area. Expect the fall color show to be pretty as well. No matter what time of year, easily add this to Schubarth Road and it’s connections for a full day of wheeling.
