Highlight: Northfield Road
Located just west of Colorado Springs, CO, Northfield Road is an easy drive through a devastated forest. In 2012, the Waldo Canyon Fire burned 18,000 acres and 346 homes, making it the most costly fire in the state’s history at the time with over $110 million dollars in losses reported. This trail weaves its way through the forest while showing the damage that fire caused. The starkness interestingly makes for a scenic drive. This trail is just off the popular Rampart Range Road and doesn’t get as much traffic as some of the trails to the north of it. You can add Ormes Peak Road, Schubarth Road, and one or two of its connections for a full day of wheeling and exploring Pike National Forest.
