Trail Information

Highlights

Out in the middle of the desert are roads rarely traveled, a place forgotten by time. In the deserts of Southern California is a place in the Orocopia Mountains that reside near one of the few abandoned railroad tracks that pass through southern California's deserts. The road, Summit Flats, is easy with incredible desert scenery around it making this a worthwhile trip. Thus the next time you are near Red Canyon, swing on through Summit Flat and check out the abandoned railroad crossing.

Just ran the trail as part of a 2-day overland trip. The trail was pretty smooth and was able to get through it pretty easily.

I was here yesterday and I think they might've removed the railroad tracks. Didn't see anything there. Read a recent review here about the Eagle Mountain Railroad Bridge on the Bradshaw Trail where the rails were recently removed as well, so I guess they took care of this spot too.
