Trail Information

Highlights

Yansing Gulch, previously known as Chinaman Gulch, is a very popular, difficult rock crawling trail ideal for testing the limits of modifieds vehicles. Minimal snow to the area makes it a great location for winter wheeling. There are many obstacles and rocks to play on along this 4wd trail, many of which provide multiple lines from easy to hard. Although not very scenic, the occasional views of the Collegiate Peaks are astonishing. This trail is a great trail for groups as the main obstacles provide enough room for vehicles to pull out of the way and watch other vehicles attempt the obstacle.

Great day on the trail. Was a shakedown run for my Cherokee. Not super busy. Pretty slick in some areas from the rain especially whales tail.

Bone dry today… it felt like summer out there. I’m in a 2013 JK 4 door sport (no lockers, sport transfer case). I have a 2.5 inch lift and 35 inch KO2s. I made it up this just fine, although with multiple attempts in some spots. I made it up the middle line on the Whale’s Tale obstacle with some great spotting. There is a bypass if you stay far right on the wall. My friend did this trail in a 2.5 inch lifted Jeep 4xe Rubicon on 33 inch KO2s. He has some rear bumper damage, however it could have been avoided if he didn’t try some of the harder obstacles. We both drove home. Trail damage today was a debeaded tire, a mangled rear driveshaft boot, two smashed steering stabilizers, and a hard top puncture (not necessarily the trail’s fault….). I will come back here when I’m on 37s. There was a Cherokee on 40s today that did the hardest route on every obstacle without thinking twice.

Fantastic January day on Chinaman. A mix of snow, ice and dirt. 6 rigs in our group, didn’t see anyone else.

Trail was clear with very little snow, left line on whale tail has a small amount of ice on it but we’re able to make it up no problem!
