Trail Experience

Located in Mesa County, just west of De Beque, Speer Hunter is a trail that offers plenty of camping and other outdoor activities in a very rugged and remote environment, yet relatively close to the major metropolitan area of the Grand Valley. This trail traverses the north side of South Shale Ridge and is a great trail to include with others in the area for a full day or even a full weekend of off-road adventures. The warm and dry area this trail is located in ensures that it is passable for a longer period of the year compared to other trails deeper in the Rocky Mountains. Early Spring and late Fall are great times to visit this beautiful area.
