Turkey Roost

Turkey Roost is situated in the Cherokee Middle Unit SWA (State Wildlife Area) in Northern Colorado. It is named after the most prominent peak in the area, called the Turkey Roost, which rises to about 7734 feet of elevation. This trail is the more difficult of the two in this SWA (the other trail being Halligan Reservoir). This trail offers some awesome scenery and some very good camping opportunities, especially for larger groups. It also offers some great early season wheeling since it opens 5/1, which is almost a month earlier than any other trail in the area. If you are into fishing, this trail can also be used for access to the North Fork of Cache la Poudre River. If you are feeling the itch to get out after a long Colorado winter, this is a great option to do that as it definitely provides a good challenge to stock vehicles, some great camping spots, and some beautiful Northern Colorado scenery.
