Spruce Mountain Loop is a typical US Forest Service mountain dirt and rock road. The road is a single vehicle-wide route with plenty of places to pass oncoming traffic. The 2.5 mile trail starts and ends along the Storm Mountain Road. Spruce Mountain Loop steeply ascends at its beginning, levels out in the middle, then descends near the end. There is one minor unnamed rocky obstacle at about the halfway mark. Spruce Mountain Loop is suitable for stock, high-clearance, 4x4 vehicles, and beginning off-road drivers.
Dispersed camping is allowed along Spruce Mountain Loop, but not ideal. The wind can blow quite hard on this hill. If you choose to camp, you can find plenty of level spots that can be filled with wild flowers.
