ForestThe road to Utica Reservoir offers an easy-going backcountry escape into the high country of the Sierra Nevada. The road strolls gently through pine forest and granite terrain before ending up at the 241-acre Utica Reservoir, known for its rocky shoreline, small islands, and calm water popular with paddlers and campers. Surrounding campgrounds provide excellent bases for fishing, kayaking, swimming, and exploring the neighboring Union Reservoir area. For most travelers, it is a relaxed destination road with plenty of Sierra scenery, but those looking for a much bigger challenge can continue north on 7N17, where the maintained road transitions into the technical rock crawling of the legendary Slick Rock Trail.
