On the southern edge of the Chemehuevi Valley, within sight of Havasu Lake, lies War Eagle Mine Loop. The trail is a pleasant tour of the desert that passes near its start, an ancient sacred Native American petroglyph site, and then continues to reach the War Eagle Mine site. The mine site has many equipment artifacts left in situ, and the end of the trail connects to hiking trails to explore the area further.
The War Eagle Mine Loop exists entirely on BLM land, and dispersed camping is allowed along the entire trail. A few camping sites can be found near the trail, with the best locations on the War Eagle Mine site.
The trail surface is over a desert hard pack with a few sections of moguls, and becomes more rugged when entering the foothills on the southern section of the loop. A two-wheeled drive vehicle with some clearance will be able to manage this trail.
