Located within the 8,000-acre Anthracite Outdoor Adventure Area (AOAA), Fern Ridge is a progressively technical trail that grasps every moment of your attention and endlessly temps you with something more challenging around every bend. With multiple exit points, Fern Ridge almost seems to tease you and leave you wondering if the next stretch will be too much for your vehicle. Come test your skills along this Jeep Badge of Honor trail and attempt the handful of optional hardcore loops it offers.
Fern Ridge, labeled as trail 121 on the park map, is a point-to-point trail located within the western reserve of Anthracite Outdoor Adventure Area. This trail is a long and slow slog along the ridgeline as you traverse several lengthy rock gardens and maneuver between tightly growing trees. The trail is often used as an access road to several more difficult loops along the ridge, but Fern Ridge is a great trail to challenge newer and experienced drivers. The trail surface starts with mainly hard-packed soil and a few rock slabs and becomes substantially rockier the deeper into the trail you travel. Unlike many other trails within the park, Fern Ridge is not muddy, making it a great place to bring the rock crawlers.
This trail is best suited for modified vehicles with larger tires and lifts. Long-wheelbase vehicles such as Gladiators might find it extremely difficult to negotiate turns between tight trees.
