Located just west of the town of Gold Hill is a short, often bypassed hidden gem that offers astonishing views in all directions. Inspiration Point is a great trail for those looking for abundant dispersed camping options and views that will leave you far beyond inspired.
Following an old Native American trail up Four Mile Creek, gold was discovered in this area in early 1859. The Gold Run Stream was said to have yielded $100,000 in gold during the first year. In March 1859, the area became the first mining district organized in the Nebraska Territory and was named “Mountain District No. 1 at Nebraska”, commonly known as Gold Hill. The area still supports a small population but with very few amenities, still holding that old west mining town feel.
