Overview
Located a short distance west of Boulder, Colorado, Boulder County 93 follows an old railroad grade that dates back to 1883. This road is often referred to as Switzerland North, as it is the northernmost section of the Switzlerand Trail, split in half by Gold Hill Road. In 1896, the Colorado and Northwestern Railroad took over ownership of this rail line and named it "Switzerland Trail" in a successful attempt to attract the tourist trade. In 1919 the line was shut down, and the tracks were subsequently pulled up, but the roadbed remains. It was, and remains, well known for its beautiful scenic views of the Front Range hills.
