Trail Information

Highlights

If you are looking for an easy, leisurely, scenic drive not far from Boise, then this is the perfect road for you! West Blacks Creek Road is located in the Boise National Forest, has wonderful views of volcanic canyons winding along the South Fork Boise River, and hidden waterfalls come from streams out of the snowcapped mountains flowing into the river. It can take less than 30 minutes to hit the trailhead from Boise. It is an excellent trail for birdwatching as raptors such as hawks, and eagles like to nest along the rocky canyons, surf the wind streams and hunt along the South Fork River. There are also numerous hiking, camping, and has trailhead accesses to the Danskin Mountain OHV Trail System. It ends in the small town of Prairie.

To get started the asphalt ends and your in your trail. Pretty easy dirt roads winding in the foothills . About 10.7 miles in you start seeing the cliffs and the canyon with the river below. I really enjoyed. We got a hamburger at the Y Stop and it was great! They are dog friends dining .

Fall is an awesome time to be up on this road but it does get busy during hunting season. Watch out for pickups and side by sides. Another nice time to run this road is during the winter. They do keep it plowed but it gets icy and dicey at certain times during the winter months.

This amazing scenic trail is less than 30 minutes from Boise and so easy to do. I love to see the landscape changes due to the seasons. From ice-capped waterfalls, various wildlife, to wildflowers blooming in the spring and summer. You should definitely check this trail out!
