Trail Information

Highlights

Sagehen Spur 626AA is in the Boise National Forest, less than 2 hours north of Boise. The main road, Sagehen Reservoir Road, has lots of spur trails like this one where you will find dozens of dispersed camping sites. This trail has Tripod Meadow opposite the trailhead which has the Tripod Creek running through it. The meadow is a beautiful location to watch for the wildlife that calls this area home. Besides deer and elk, be aware of bear and mountain lion as well. Watch yourself, your children, and your pets accordingly.

Patricia and I had a great time today checking some of these shorter spur trails, the high for the day was 28 degrees, getting a bit too cold for camping but it was beautiful while driving. This trail appears to be about the same as our last visit.

This is an awesome area! I have been coming up here for years now and I never get tired of it. Logging operations are still in progress and still have a few of the roads shut down. There is a herd of cattle up in the area as the rancher free graze this time of year. Be sure to leave gates the way you found them. Along with the cattle comes the predators, keep your dogs and little ones in close to camp at night. Camping is dispersed and because of the high attraction of this area it can be hard to get that perfect spot. Right before we left from our camping trip, Idaho F and G was up there stocking the Tripod Creek with fish.

This trail is beautiful with the meadows and all the creeks flowing through it. We even saw trout in the creek, seemed too small to be planted by F&G so I would assume they were born here. They're doing some tree thinning around the reservoir so the main road, Sagehen Reservoir Road, is closed before you get to the reservoir. I understand that work will be finished by 06/30/2020
