Located within the far southern region of the San Juan National Forest in Colorado is the popular and picturesque La Plata Canyon. The easy and well-maintained trail travels through a deep canyon with several organized yet primitive campgrounds. The route offers several chances to explore more challenging 4x4 side trails, but the route is best known for leading to Kennebec Pass and Columbus Basin. Both these trails travel high above for a memorable off-road experience.
The 1.8 million acres San Juan National Forest located in southwest Colorado has thousands of miles of back-roads and hundreds of 4x4 trails to explore. The region's diverse terrain offers outdoor enthusiasts a wide variety of opportunities to experience nature without the large crowds found to the north.
