Trail Information

Highlights

Devils Cove is a relatively unknown and secluded off-road trail not terribly far from Las Vegas. It originates in the Gold Butte National Monument and travels down to what was once a cove of Lake Mead. The drive down to the cove is stimulating with fun driving that weaves in and out of washes and gives you a sampling of the five plant communities that surround the Lake. Once in the cove area, there is plenty of camping and areas to explore on foot.

This trail was very scenic. Towards the end, the trail gets a little more challenging and sandy where 4x4 will come in handy. We saw a lot of wild life in this area. The trail ends at a marshy vegetation area were donkeys seems to hangout. The cove area is not worth camping at. There are donkey dropping everywhere and I think you can find better camping spots with better views elsewhere. Overall it was a nice drive.

Not being from the area, the entire Gold Butte National Monument I find fascinating. The desert environment here is very scenic. We took this road with hopes of reach the shore of Lake Mead, but with the water being so low the trail ends at the marsh. There are some really beautiful sections of this trail that make this one worth it.
