Trail Information

Highlights

East Blue Ridge Road is an excellent trail for spending a few hours enjoying beautiful views of the eastern side of the San Gabriel Mountains.  The inner rugged canyons and valleys of these mountains can not be appreciated until you experience them firsthand.  This trail has two nice free campgrounds where you can relax under shady pine trees.  The campgrounds are seldom crowded, a rarity for campgrounds so close and easy to reach.  The trail is easy and 2WD-friendly unless the weather is abnormally poor.

Difficulty Accuracy: Spot On

Visited September 22, 2023 with a quick stop at the information center to check on fire levels and if any wildlife spotting. Even with having bears in the area, we were told there had not been any recent sightings. Trail was open with nothing difficult. Few new washout spots in the broken up paved sections, but nothing to worry about. Just watch for new 'pot holes'. Easy passable in 2wd. You could see some what looked liked workers at the bottom of the Ski Slopes from where you cross under the lifts. Blue Ridge Camp was busy, and fuller than I've seen. I ended up at Guffy Camp ground. There was only myself and one other group in camp. The temp dropped much colder than anticipated. The winds picked up and temps dropped to the 40s on my gauge. But, what would to be expected at around 8300 ft level. Fires in a ring where allowed. The camps were visited by Game Wardens as hunting season is set to open 9/23. No big deal, just small chat. Lupine gate was open, however I did not venture down.

Despite what the CalTrans website says, Highway 2 is open between Wrightwood and Vincent Gulch. Therefore the trailhead is accessible and the trail is open.
