Highlights

This is a trail that is all about the destination. Close to major highways and civilization, it offers a memorable quick getaway with the family to a place most will never see. Once you arrive at Hill 582 you will notice why it has been named one of the best train spotting locations in North America. A little oasis in the middle of the desert, offering history, scenic views, and a great picnic spot with benches and shade.

The forest service has deemed the San Bernardino Forest unsafe for public off-roaders to use until June 30th. You can also contact the head office in Washington,DC, and voice your concern there. Difficulty Accuracy: Spot On

Great place for lunch, some wildlife viewing and train watching. It’s a pretty therapeutic place with some history to it. We try to bring fresh water up whenever we go as to refill the bird baths.

There are a couple ways up to the top of Hill 582. I took a route slightly different than the one shown and climbed the hill on the opposite side. Easy, short trail for any beginner, the hill is a great excuse to go into 4 low and enjoy some views from the top. If your kids or any of the kids in your family enjoy trains, this is a good place to bring them.
