Highlight: Puma Road (aka La Salle Pass)
The Tarryall Mountains and South Park Valley is the popular Puma Road (aka La Salle Pass) in southern Colorado. The moderate trail is a remnant from miners in the area that needed a more direct route into the South Park Valley over 100 years ago. Since there were limited ways over the mountains, locals looked to forge a better route from this area known as the Puma Hills. The leader of this effort was Samuel La Salle and is said to have gotten the miners together to build their own way through. This year-round trail is best enjoyed in the fall when leaves are changing or in the winter when looking to get away while nearby seasonal roads are closed. Regardless of the time of year, you’ll want to stop often and look in both directions to take in all the landscapes. Don’t miss this scenic Colorado staple.
