Highlight: Turkey Creek Trail Cleator
Turkey Creek trail is a very scenic trail located about 30 miles north of Phoenix, near Bumble Bee, Arizona. The trail travels above and eventually winds through a wide canyon that offers a mild challenge for most 4x4 vehicles. In the early 1900s, the area was once a rich silver and gold mining region, but only a couple of small operations remain to this day. Along the way, you may choose to divert down a very steep ledge road to the stone cabin ruins found in the wash below. There are also many beautiful sections with towering shade trees offering relief from the desert sun. Always remember to pack extra water for trips such as this. This trail is wonderful traveling in either direction, both offering great views of the surrounding Bradshaw Mountains. Either way, be sure to plan for a stop at the very unique Cleator Bar and Yacht Club, where you'll be greeted with a one-of-a-kind bar experience. At this point, you can explore one of the many trails in the area or continue up the mountain to Crown King and Senator Highway.
