Hero: Mack's Canyon Branch
small-sr Icon
Mack's Canyon Branch is a .81 mile moderate out and back trail at 7,997' elevation with 3 or 4 dispersed campsites. The entrance to the trail has washed out fingers to negotiate from some previous flooding. Later the trail offers a short, steep incline with a sharp boulder at the top and an off-camber descent. You then descend into a short, sharp, steep drop slightly off-camber. The most challenging part of this trail occurs about .6 miles in. A washed-out incline with exposed tree roots and potholes requires a bit of driver skill. There is a campsite at the top. It's also an excellent place to turn around if you are in a convoy of vehicles. The trail's end has a campsite and narrow space to turn around a single vehicle. This is a slot canyon with much of the trail running in a wash. Be aware of the flash flooding potential.
