Solitario Road West is a straight-through 2.2-mile trail consisting of compacted dirt, mixed with loose rock. The trail is easily traversed by any high clearance vehicle. The trail has no notable obstacles but has been narrowed by encroaching brush in some areas. The area offers some exceptional hiking, including the Burnt Camp Trail accessible off the Solitario Road West. The hike takes you through a scenic desert landscape.
Along the drive, you will notice the nearly decomposed ruins of an automobile, reminding you that this remote area has attracted visitors for quite a while. The camping here is restricted to designated sites only. One site can be found about halfway through, just past the intersection with the abandoned McGuirk’s tanks.
