small-sr Icon

Custer Limestone Road is a graded gravel road connecting Medicine Mountain Road off Highway 16, north of Custer, to Boles Canyon near the Wyoming border. This road spans nearly 30 miles and provides access to numerous trails and Forest Service roads in the southern Black Hills of South Dakota. This road is suitable for all but the lowest vehicles.

Along the eastern portion, travelers are presented with several views of the Crazy Horse Monument, Black Elk Peak, and the surrounding Black Hills. Several small pull-offs provide camping options, including one with a great view of Crazy Horse. As you head west, the forest thickens, and camping on the road becomes more sparse. Many of the connecting roads and trails host options for dispersed camping.
