Portage Road is a quick 5-mile, well-maintained route. If you are running up the main Ridge Road, this route provides an escape east out of Elk State Forest towards highway 872 between Costello and Austin, PA. Portage Road runs along the top of a ridge and has a couple of nice views, although there is no apparent camping. The nearest camping is the Sizerville State Park campground.
