Big Spring Road

Big Springs Road, also known as Burbank Road, runs from Highway 21 in Utah to the old ghost town of Atlanta in Nevada. The Utah portion of the trail runs through ranches and private property, while the Nevada portion is wide-open BLM land. The road surface is mostly firm gravel, with mild washouts and rocky sections on the east side of Wells Summit that require a stock high-clearance SUV, giving the route a moderate overall difficulty; elsewhere, it remains relatively smooth under normal dry conditions. The route traverses open high-desert flats of sagebrush and low shrubs, with scattered juniper on the hillsides, long views of the surrounding mountains, and scattered remnants of old ranch buildings, including weathered log cabins and a windmill.

While dispersed camping is allowed along the Nevada portion of this trail, suitable or existing sites are nonexistent aside from the one at Wells Summit. That site is gently sloped and rocky, slightly off-level, and has a fire ring. Juniper stands west of Wells Summit offer minimal shade and some wind break. The remainder of the road is fully exposed to sun and wind.
