Shingle Shortcut Road is a scenic high-desert dirt road in Lincoln County that links Patterson Pass and Shingle Pass. Running through the low-lying areas of Cave Valley, it forms an important middle connector in a series of trails that together provide a route between Highways 93 and 318. The road offers wide-open valley views framed by distant mountain ranges, with the classic Nevada high-desert landscape of sagebrush, scattered pinyon, and expansive basins.

The route consists primarily of dirt, with some muddy sections in the lower parts of Cave Valley that should be avoided during rainy periods or during snowmelt. It provides a straightforward connection for travelers between the Patterson Pass and Shingle Pass areas while allowing them to experience the region's remote backcountry character.

Dispersed camping is available on public lands along the route, but the only established campsites are on the eastern side of the valley between Cave Valley and N. Cave Valley roads. Of those, approximately six are large enough for small groups, relatively flat, and have minimal rocks.
