Elk Meadows Road (Forest Service Road 308) is a breathtaking drive through the Payette National Forest and the Grass Mountains, and around Lava Butte. There are some spectacular elevated views of the Hazard Lakes Basin. Please note, that maps will depict the roads going further than listed here, but they do not.
There are no developed campgrounds along this trail; however, there are suitable places for dispersed camping. This trail intersects with Goose Lake Road, which has a few developed campgrounds.
The road itself is rocky in parts, with numerous potholes, but any high-clearance vehicle can handle it. The spur on the north end is worth the trek and offers some great views. The trail ends in the north at a locked gate, but this trail is not to be missed!
