Burgdorf-French Creek Road is a well-maintained, one to two-lane gravel road suitable for any vehicle with reasonable ground clearance. The south part of the road, up on top, is a straightforward drive with the most significant hazard being dust. Once one starts down the grade, the road narrows to one lane with pullouts, and the most significant hazard becomes the switchbacks and blind curves. There are some minor washouts on the steeper slopes, and occasionally washboards and potholes.
There are several campsites along the upper section, and dispersed camping is available. However, once one starts down French Grade, the opportunities for camping become quite scarce.
