Free Use Road (Forest Service Road 243) is a spectacular, point-to-point drive through the Nez Perce National Forest, supplying breathtaking views of Dairy Mountain and the surrounding Cold Spirings Mountains.

This double-wide gravel road is well-maintained, and suitable for any vehicle. It connects Highway 95 in the west and Grangeville-Salmon Road in the east, and is located just south of Grangeville. There are no developed campgrounds along this trail; however, there are some opportunities for dispersed camping off the main road in the eastern section of the trail.
