Next to Mammoth Mountain, a tan track stands out, emerging from the alpine trees, heading towards the next peak. For any explorer, the burning question arises, "What's up there?" The adventure and views of Deadman Pass surely do not disappoint!

The trail (26E201) begins near the Minaret Summit Lookout, just before the entrance to Devils Postpile and Reds Meadow. Start by meandering through the alpine trees with a few avoidable deep ruts along the way. These trees and tight turns may pose a slight challenge for full-size trucks, but can be maneuvered around with the right attention. Before the wide-open stretch to the top, a rocky climb presents the biggest challenge. Most stock 4x4 vehicles can handle these rocks with a carefully chosen line, but high clearance is recommended. After exiting the trees, a smooth, steady climb with breathtaking 360-degree views awaits. Once at the summit, there is a small space to turn around, but it may not be large enough for multiple vehicles at one time. With stops for pictures and to enjoy the views, the trip is about 30 minutes each way.
