Little Piute Trail begins in the Little Piute Mountains and descends into the wide, sandy expanse of Ward Valley. Throughout the route, expansive views stretch toward the nearby Old Woman Mountains Wilderness. One of the more notable landmarks along the trail is the Eastern Mojave Heritage Trail mailbox, where visitors can sign the logbook to record their passage.
The entire route is part of Eastern Mojave Heritage Trail (EMHT) Segment 4, a curated 145-mile section of the larger 733-mile EMHT network. Segment 4 highlights some of the most remote terrain in the Eastern Mojave and is managed through a partnership between the Bureau of Land Management and the Mojave Desert Heritage and Cultural Association.
A few previously disturbed campsites are visible along the route, and there are several additional open, flat areas suitable for dispersed camping.
The trail follows generally flat, hard-packed sand with occasional short rocky sections. In dry conditions, it is typically suitable for most high-clearance two-wheel-drive vehicles.
