Leaving the Turtle Mountains behind, Chemehuevi Valley West Trail crosses the 22-mile-wide Chemehuevi Valley to Hightower Road near Havasu Lake. The first 2.4 miles on the west end are part of the Eastern Mojave Heritage Trail (EMHT) Segment 4, one section of the larger 733-mile EMHT network managed through a partnership between the Bureau of Land Management and the Mojave Desert Heritage and Cultural Association.

The route is entirely on BLM land, and dispersed camping is allowed throughout the area. While only a few previously disturbed campsites are visible from the trail, there are many suitable places to camp along the route.

Road conditions vary significantly across the valley. West of Highway 95, the trail is rough and rocky, with several steep, narrow wash crossings. One wash includes an approximately 18-inch vertical ledge at the bottom of a steep descent, requiring careful tire placement. East of Highway 95, the route transitions into the sandy drainage of Chemehuevi Wash, where dozens of smaller washes combine to form a broad wash bottom.

A lifted 4x4 and an experienced driver are recommended due to the rocky obstacles, wash crossings, and soft sand.
