Nestled in the Piute Valley of the Mojave National Preserve, Zinc Mine Road is escorted by a beautifully dense Joshua Tree forest, with picturesque views out to the Mescal and Striped mountains. The road passes several other driving and hiking trails that invite exploration. The highlight of the trail is a visit to Roger's Camp and the beautifully restored Roger's Cabin. Everett E. Rogers was a miner and ranch hand who built the original cabin in the 1900's. Restored by Park personnel and volunteers, the cabin is available for use by backcountry explorers.
While there are no existing dispersed campsites visible from the road, Roger's Camp provides an excellent campsite with views overlooking the valley, a fire ring, a bench, and space for several vehicles.
Zinc Mine Road is an easy path with the occasional water-worn furrow across the road. A two-wheel drive vehicle with some clearance would easily navigate this trail.
