Hugging the western border of the Mojave Wilderness, Goldome Mill Mine Road provides a glimpse of the wild, rugged, and undisturbed beauty of the New York Mountain foothills. The road was heavily engineered to provide a level path for ore trucks by cutting through hills and filling the low gaps with 30-foot-tall earth berms. Driving these tall embankments provides a fantastic perspective of the surrounding desert and wildlife below. Once past the foothills, the trail reveals fantastic views over the distant Ivanpah Valley.
This one-vehicle-wide trail is very rugged, filled with apple-sized stones, and some portions are weather- and tire-worn, creating deep, offsetting depressions, resulting in the trail's moderate difficulty rating. A 4x4 with good ground clearance is required to drive this trail.
