The sand path to Chocolate Thunder is a popular access route in the Johnson Valley OHV Area that connects Means Dry Lake and Hammertown to the Chocolate Thunder rock-crawling trail. It is a wide sandy track that is easy to follow and is commonly used by off-roaders and spectators during King of the Hammers. Many people take this path from Means Dry Lake to park up on the big sand hill above Chocolate Thunder to watch the action as racers tackle the rock obstacles below.
The route is not technical but can be soft in places, so airing down is recommended. A 2WD vehicle can make this route as long as they air down.
