Accessed via forest road, Indian Canyon, Angelus Hill trail is an out-and-back that continues south to reach the trail's namesake, the 4,100' Angelus Hill. Along the way, drive through striking boulder fields and enjoy views out to the west of the San Jacinto Valley and onto the Lakeview Mountains. Located in the desert region of the San Jacinto Mountains, the trail is surrounded by desert and coastal sage scrub.
There are two dispersed campsites located 0.3 miles before the end of the trail and at the very end. Both sites are on the edge of the hill and provide gorgeous views of the valley below and beyond. These campsites are on large flat clearings suitable for multiple vehicles and their tents.
The trail is rated by the Forest Service as “Easiest.” The trail surface is mostly flat and smooth, and made up of packed decomposed granite with some rutted sections caused by water runoff. A 4x4 with some clearance is called for, mostly over the other trails needed to reach Angelus Hill. Expect some striping from the scrub bushes intruding on the trail.
