Overview

Old Alamo Road is seldom used. Old Alamo may just be your trail if you are looking for a remote experience. The trail passes through one of western Arizona's most isolated and ruggedly beautiful areas. The seldom-used trail passes through forests of Joshua trees. The track climbs into the jagged Artillery Mountains and descends past an old ghost town before ending above the shores of Alamo Lake on the Bill Williams River. There are great views everywhere you look. Far from any source of light pollution, the dark skies provide excellent stargazing in a camp that will undoubtedly be quiet and restful. However, you may hear one of the area's feral burros braying nearby. Arizona is known for its desert sunsets. See if you can catch a good one on Old Alamo Road.
