Windmill Trail winds through the rugged beauty of the Sonoran Desert on a mostly dirt surface with occasional softball-sized rocks and a few shallow ruts that may require careful tire placement. A stock 4x4 vehicle can complete the trail easily under normal conditions. Along the route sits an old windmill that once pumped water for cattle, a reminder of the area’s ranching history and the importance of scarce desert water sources. Please note that camping is prohibited within one-quarter mile of any water source, to help protect wildlife and to preserve access for livestock in this fragile desert environment.
