Trail Information

Highlights

Located just a mile north of the Quebradas Backcountry Byway, Overlook Road is an easy 4WD trail that meanders through the Coyote Hills. The 360-degree vistas along this trail are spectacular, and the array of rocks and fossils are a rock hound's dream. Hiking, camping, mountain biking, and many other outdoor recreational activities await in this BLM-administered desert paradise. Flora and fauna abound in this harsh, rugged, yet beautiful landscape. At certain times of day, you may see area wildlife including gray fox, mule deer, coyote, bobcat, porcupine, raccoon, ground squirrel, opossum, jackrabbit, cottontail and of course, always be on the lookout for rattlesnakes!

Overlook Road does its name justice – the trail offers spectactular panoramas over the surrounding areas. We did the trail in reverse direction, so some of our hillclimbs may be your descents. The main challenge seem to be some of the steep rocky hillclimbs, however they were not a problem with our stock Grand Cherokee Trailhawk; still, airing down is a must. I'd consider the trail slightly more difficult than what I've come to expect from a 3 rating.

Recently ran this trail on the way to Coyote Canyon. It's slow going due to the whoop-de-doos from dirt bikes, but the view from the overlook is great. The trail has actually smoothed out a bit between waypoints 2 and 3.

Cool little trail. Very scenic and easy to drive. Descending in and climbing out of the arroyo is just enough excitement to get your heart rate up.
