Trail Information

Highlights

Wash roads in Utah are common, but this one is really a nice treat. Entering from the West side of the San Rafael Swell, the North Fork of Coal Wash is an easy but scenic way into the iconic network of trails this area is known for. Also along its borders is Swasey's Arch, a massive stone structure reminding you just how small we really are in this world. Be sure to take some time to get out or enjoy the sights along the way as you wind your way down this awesome sandy wash.

Great ride and nice to still have this route through the wilderness area. Have been driving here for 35 years. Fun adventure with our two Jeeps and an ATV.

We ran this trail from waypoint 1 to 9 then we split of to S Coal Wash to connect with Eva Conover. This was a nice chill trail. Amazing cliffs and rock formations as you’d expect. Next time will run this whole trail to Devils Racetrack and Slipper Arch.

We ran a section of this pretty easy trail to connect with others. The video is of our one day loop through this beautiful region. We connected this trail with a few others for a mildly challenging day on the trail. We camped in our big rig rv along Buckhorn Draw Road, about a mile and half from I-70. It was easily accessible and free.

I have not totally completed this trail but have done 2/3's of it at two different times. The first time we traveled from Devils towards Fix It Pass. This report is for the second run in 2019 heading North to pick up the South Fork of Coal Wash. Fun little wash trail that you can just glide along and see the sites of the cliff walls and bottom. The video here is the same as for Devils Racetrack and is 46 minutes of the 8+ hours of raw footage that include this trail with South Fork Coal Wash and Eva Conover. The Autumn colors were just setting in and with the bright sunny day made for a perfect outing.

We ran a portion of this trail in conjunction with Devil's Racetrack, Fix-it Pass and Neilson Dugway. This, like all other trails, is great, but definitely a different vibe than the others in the area. It is a soft dirt road most of the way and I would recommend making this part of anyone's journey as its fun driving through the wash and the arch is really inspiring.
