D3041 travels along a barren, unforgiving landscape with a colorful backdrop. The soft brown dirt two-track zig-zags over rolling hills and across rutted open prairie land. The deep, 12-24", vertical cross-cut trenches require significant approach and departure angles. Four-wheel drive, durable tires, and high clearance are required for the ruts, soft sand, and rocky sections. There is abundant camping at the western trailhead along Ruby Ranch Road. The camping is a wide-open space with room for RV campers and large groups.
